Ludwig Grüner letters, 1848-1870.

The collection consists of six letters, including five letters to Henry Mogford between 1848 and 1857, with questions and comments on artistic themes, including permission for Mogford to sketch some items in the Prince's collection. Also, to Mrs. Gourlie, 22 June 1870, responding favorably to her request for an autograph.

Ludwig Grüner was a German engraver and painter, and author of several art books. After studying in Dresden and Milan, he travelled throughout Western Europe, and was very active in England. He became artistic advisor to Prince Albert and Sir Charles Eastlake, influencing the design of the Queen's Garden Pavilion in Buckingham Palace, and helped introduce continental artistic trends into England.
